The short version: we do not want your child's data.

What we do not do

• No advertising, of any kind, anywhere.
• No third-party analytics, pixels, or tag managers on the child-facing app.
• No personal information collected from a child — no name required, no age, no email, no voice recording, no photo, no location.
• No behavioural profiling and no data sold or shared with anyone.
• No purchase prompt, membership nag, or "premium" badge shown to a child. Children never see a price and never see who paid.
• No open chat, no user-generated content, no way for one child to contact another.
• No leaderboards or public rankings — a safety question as much as a motivation one.

What we do

• Store progress in your browser's local storage, on your device.
• Let you export it as a file or erase it completely, from the Field Notes page, without asking us.
• Keep an optional grown-up account for syncing across devices — email address only, deletable on request, never used for marketing without a separate opt-in.
• Publish a written data-retention policy and delete inactive optional accounts after 24 months.
• Serve everything over HTTPS with a content-security policy that blocks third-party scripts outright.

Accessibility

We aim at WCAG 2.1 AA and treat it as a floor rather than a finish line.

• Text and interface contrast at 4.5:1 or better, checked automatically at build time.
• Every interactive target at least 44 by 44 pixels.
• Full keyboard operation; number keys select answers; visible focus rings everywhere.
• Nothing conveyed by colour alone — correct and incorrect are also stated in words.
• prefers-reduced-motion honoured, plus an explicit in-app switch.
• Individually adjustable text size, line spacing, letter spacing, word spacing and page tint, with an off-white rather than pure-white default.
• Screen-reader announcements for feedback, and no time limit on any response.

We offer OpenDyslexic as a preference and do not claim it helps. Controlled trials of dyslexia-specific fonts have not found a reading benefit; increased letter and word spacing has better support, and that is a dial we expose.

Standards

Every rung carries a Common Core code. Reading follows RF.K.1 through RF.3.3; mathematics is weighted to the major work of each grade — K.CC and K.OA, 1.OA and 1.NBT, 2.NBT, 3.OA and 3.NF, 4.NF and 4.NBT, 5.NF and 5.NBT — rather than spread thinly to claim wide coverage.

Screen time

Sessions are capped and end on their own. There is no autoplay into the next unit, no infinite feed, and every completion screen carries something to do away from the screen. We would rather your child used us for eleven minutes and then went outside.
